The Corridor Analysis

This video was one created by Sam De Almeida, Conor Redmond, Alex Valente and Myself.

After creating the first scene which was set in the toilet. I decided to make a second scene, this one took place in a corridor, starring 3 characters and myself filming what happened. We decided to put in more action than last time so we could see which allowed for more camera angles. The scene is set in a school corridor around midday. I decided to film the scene based on 2 boys chasing after a bully and confronting him. I decided to use this as the story line as I thought we could use many interesting angles and shots for the scene. The first shot to be seen is the title page, and it lasts for around 2 seconds, which is enough to read what it says. It is on quite a striking background to help grab the viewers’ attention. In the first scene I didn’t put in any effects when editing, so I thought I would see what they look like and put one in, in which the title shot minimizes, and disappears and leads straight on to the scene of Conor and Sam running down the corridor. I like the effect that a transition gives to the scene, I think that it helps distinguish that the first shot is just a title and helps keep the scene interesting as it changes shots. The next is shot is a long shot of Sam and  Conor running towards the camera, this shot helps establish the location as it is clearly in a school corridor, but this long shot doesn’t help to introduce the characters or the story. Maybe if I filmed close ups of the characters faces while running and put that in the scene it would of helped to introduce who the characters are. I decided not to put a transition from this shot to the next as I tried it and I thought it made the scene look tacky. The next shot is very interesting; it is an over the shoulder shot looking down on Sam and Conor. This is a good use of angles and shot types as the over the shoulder shot helps to show the dialogue from Sam to Alex if it wasn't clear enough for the listener to hear, but the angle shows that Alex is the more powerful of the characters and it makes Sam and Conor look small and weak compared to him. But before Sam talks to Alex he steps on a step making him look bigger and maybe suggests that he is going to stand up to the more powerful character. Overall I am pleased with how the scene has turned out as I think it looks professional. I think I could of improved the scene by maybe putting in a few more shots as it seemed to lack screen time and ended quite quickly, and I think that I could also improve the scene by maybe putting a brief explanation of the story in the scene at some point as I think that it might be a bit confusing for the viewer. In the scene before filming again we didn’t involve any props or change the lighting as we thought the current lighting and attire would be suitable for the scene. In conclusion I think the scene turned out better than our first attempt but there are still some improvements that we could have made and some effects to try out.
